My great photography

I am a mom of 2 busy young girls aged 6 and 4. I love family time and spending time outdoors. So much of my inspiration comes from the natural beauty surrounding us. This is why I am an on location natural light children’s photographer. Kids are free to run around and be themselves while outside. The resulting photos are a wonderful natural expression of your child. I look forward to working with you to create lasting memories of your family.

Best Time to have your maternity Photographed

Pregnancy is such a miraculous  and exciting time in ones life that many want to capture with photography. The best time to capture your adorable belly  is around 28-32 weeks of pregnancy.  The baby bump is getting nice and round, but you are not yet at the incredibly uncomfortable stage. For expectant moms carrying twins, earlier is best as you may grow more quickly than with a single pregnancy. I would suggest contacting a photographer early in your pregnancy. Most professional photographers have a consultation to get to know you and what you are looking for in your maternity photographs.  This is a great opportunity for the photographer to help you gauge the best timing for your session based on your growth and any possible health concerns. Closer to the end of pregnancy after 34 weeks mots of moms can start retaining more water and get very uncomfortable!! Those babies love digging feet up under moms ribs, this uncomfort will show in the photos. This beautiful mommy had her session at 32 weeks.

Another thing to consider in your maternity session are some family photographs. This baby will be coming into a family, so however your family is composed, include them!

In this shoot I brought a little treat for the toddler to have while sitting beside me. I was then able to get some great shots of mom and dad. It is the love for each other that created this baby and family, lets capture it!! How special for the children to have loving photographs of their parents to look back upon when older. If you have questions about maternity photography, contact me, and I would be happy to give you more information!

I had so much fun photographing this family at Tynehead Park in Surrey, at the end of April. This creative mom had the perfect wardrobe for them. This family loves to snowboard together, it is a passion and provides great family time! I love that each family member had on a shirt from one of the mountains they board at. What a creative and memorable way to capture the essence of their family. Love it! The family also spends lots of time at local skate parks. I was thrilled for the boys to bring their skateboards, we all had fun. This what custom photography is about, capturing the unique style of your family.

Gallery walls are very popular. They create a beautiful focal point to your room. Pintrest is a great place to find inspiration to create one in your home! (Click Here to see my gallery wall board on Pintrest) While gallery walls with the same size shape and colour are very beautiful, I wanted to mix it up a bit! The thought of even starting this project can be a bit overwhelming at first, it  easy. I already had quite a few mixed frames. My favourite is the antique frame found in an antique store in Grand Forks, BC. I had my family photo custom printed on canvas to fit this beauty!

Start by laying out your frames on the floor to your desired shape, I chose rectangular. Get creative like I have, using all different sizes and shaped frames within your desired area! It took some reorganizing and a few extra trips to HomeSense to get it right! Once all frames are in your desired placement, cut paper templates of each frame. (kids craft paper is great, may want to avoid news paper, unless you want to clean your walls!!) Paper is great as you can press around the hanging hardware, leaving an imprint on your paper so you know exactly where to place the nail. I then replicated the layout on the wall taping up each paper frame. Simply place a nail in the correct spot for each frame, gently remove the paper templates and hang frames! Good luck with your gallery wall!

This is my favourite frame! Found at an antique store in Grand Forks, BC. My family photo is printed on archival quality canvas.

Isn’t the deatil spectacular! Love the old patina on the paint, gives it great character!

Here is a list of where I found the frames:

1: Antique store Grand Forks, BC

2: Ikea

3: Zin Frames.  My handcrafted custom frame supplier

4: Home Sense Pack of 2 frames with images

5: My antique store find with canvas photo.

6: Antique store in Grand Forks, BC

7: Home Sense. Frames were sold individually

8: Urban Barn

9: Ikea

10: Michaels the arts and crafts store, Clearance section

Today is the long awaited first day of school for the BC public school students! I love having my kids home, but by the end of a long summer, they need some time to themselves! With only one hour of classes, you have time to take some back to school photos! Here are some different options for you to try!

Painting backdrop! I made one backdrop from old pictures/ paintings and crafts.  (the further away your child stands from the wall, the more blurry the background will be. I included a wide shot to show how I use a big white board reflector for fill light)

Go play out side.! I love photos in Nature with the beautiful grasses for extra texture. I added a chalkboard insert to one of my custom handcrafted photo frames to write the school date. We also brought some books without covers to have vintage feel.

My oldest, is so great with her sister, she was styling,  fixing her hair, and brought her flowers!

Hand drawn back drop! I am lucky to have large rolls of seamless backdrop paper. I borrowed the kids chalk and drew out this scene. You can duct tape poster paper together to make a large backdrop and draw on it. Not my usual style, but another fun option. I like the Black and white, it reminds me of the background in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty!

Art Easel Info photo. This one is nice and easy, I wrote a couple things we would like to remember in the future. It is fun and easy, most people have these at home already!

It is summer!! My family is enjoying quality time off together in the sun! I took a couple pics of my girls on an evening walk though Tynehead Regional Park in Surrey BC. I just love the shot of her walking with purpose and a dirty behind, so cute!!

My oldest is especially excited for a summer break from school (just finished K, going into grade one). To keep her engaged with writing and creating, I decided to create a special space for her in the family room.  She had fun going to the store and picking out new crayons, pencil crayons etc.. (old crayons eaten by little sister who now promises to not chomp on the new ones!) She excitedly placed all her workstation supplies in mason jars and arranged with some books. The idea came from the “playful Learning” website. (Found on Pintrest. Love this website, it is incredible!) I also added an alphabet chart and some amazing printable writing books from “Teachers pay Teachers”   You do not have to be a teacher to sign up. It has amazing resources, some free, some for a small fee.

If any moms out there have suggestions on fun summer learing please feel free to share!

My baby girl turned 3 this month! How time flies when you are having fun! I found great inspiration for her birthday on Pinterest!  (Here is the link to my Pinterest Board) My daughter wanted a pink cake. We both loved the pink ombre rose cake, and the paper rose streamers went so well with the cake!

My oldest daughter has many allergies,  so I  made a double batch of Chef Chloe’s vegan “Fluffy coconut cupcakes” and Coconut Frosting. I then followed the assembly instructions from the pinned recipe. The cake looked so good, she couldn’t resist a little taste of icing during pictures!! Happy Birthday my little love!

Last September my favourite Children’s and Maternity Consignment Boutique “Not for Long” had a fundraiser to support Breast Cancer. They had many baskets filled with goodies up for raffle. The proceeds were donated to the CIBC run for the cure under team Not for Long, as we hope breast cancer will not be around for much  longer!  I donated a glamour shoot to one of the incredible gift baskets!  This lovely lady’s husband won the gift basket for her! She is a beautiful, strong and inspiring woman, undergoing chemo at the time of the shoot.

We started with a lovely makeup pampering by Leanne (check out her website here)  then met up  with  her adorable family for a fun mini-family session at Crescent Beach, then took some beautiful portraits of just mom!

An entire blog post on album cover options! There are that many to choose from! The high quality lay flat album requires the perfect cover. Here is some info that can assist you in selecting the right cover for you.  I have included the basic care info, as this can be a deciding factor. I have too frequently purchased clothes, only to realize later they are high maintenance dry clean only!!

The lowest maintenance nature-friendly faux leathers are perfect for families. They are PVC free, while having an incredible, soft supple texture. They can be spot cleaned easily with soap and water.

The faux ostrich leathers have an incredible texture! They offer the same eco-friendly composition, while being easy to clean.

Introducing the faux suede! These fabrics are again nature friendly, yet durable. These can also be spot cleaned easily with soap and water.

The covers also come in traditional book cloths. They also come in some not-so- traditional colours and textures. My 5 year old daughter likes the bright and bold “stiletto”, although I thought she would prefer the glittery “sunset strip”! These fabrics are paper backed for application, and should be spot treated with a dry cleaner product. The album company,  Finao, recommends “Absorene Book and Paper Cleaner”

The heavy duty bold fabrics are beautiful and very durable! If spills occur, blot immediately to remove excess fluid It can be cleaned with a misting of soap solution. The fabric should be very gently rubbed, to not damage.

Last but not least, the silks. The first samples are a nature-friendly man made silk, which can be easily spot washed with soap and water.

For the Non- vegans, the natural silks! They have a delicate, soft texture. These fine bo ok fabrics are also adhered with paper backing and should be delicately cleaned with a dry cleaner such as Absorene book and paper cleaner.

I have searched for a great quality photo album with a good price point, and finally found one!!

I love this line of Albums. It is a high quality hand bound album. It is printed on professional photographic paper, with better image quality than press printed books. The press printed books are printed on card stock with ink and can not achieve the full range of colours possible with photographic prints. The cover options are fabulous! There is something for everyone, from neutral linens, fine decorative silks, to soft yet durable eco- friendly “non-leathers” The cover of the album in the video is a replica ostrich “leather”. Another possible option is an image wrap.

My favourite feature is the lay flat seamless spine, allowing for the pages to lie completely flat without the image being lost in the crease.
